OLUYOLE ESTATE GRAMMAR SCHOOL WASHCare PROJECT

To promote water and sanitation hygiene in Oluyole Estate Grammar School in
Oyo state during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goal of the Oluyole Estate Grammar School WASHCare project was to promote water and sanitation hygiene in Oluyole Estate Grammar School in Oyo state during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. The objectives to achieve the set goal were: 

  1. To improve knowledge on proper hand wash practices, protection against infections and
    diseases among students and teachers in the school.
  2. To improve hand hygiene practices of students and teachers
    in the school. The project produced the following outcomes:
    1. Improved knowledge on proper hand wash practices,
      protection against infections and diseases among students and teachers in the school.
    2. Improved hand hygiene
      practices of students and teachers in the school. T

The following activities were carried out to achieve the goal and objectives of the project: Advocacy to the stakeholders of the school to receive permission to implement the project; Provision of 30litre pedal controlled hand wash station for the school; Provision of hand sanitizers and hand wash for students and teachers; And educating the students and teachers on proper water, hand wash and sanitation hygiene. 300 students and 20 teachers were reached.

Outcomes evaluation was conducted to determine if the project achieved its expected outcomes using appropriate methodology. The achievement of the first outcome, improved knowledge on proper hand wash practices, protection against infections and diseases among students and teachers in the school, was determined using non-participatory observation as the data collection method, and observation guide as the data collection instrument. The second outcome, improved hand hygiene practices of students and teachers in the school, was determined by using interview as the data collection method, and interview guide used to collect data from key informant. Nonparticipatory observation was also used to determine the second outcome.
